MEDIADEM is a European research project on media policy-making processes in EU member states and candidate countries. The project started on April 1st, 2010 and will last for three years. Its purpose is to identify which policy processes, tools and instruments can best support the development of free and independent media. The project combines a country-based study with a comparative analysis across media sectors and types of media services and investigates the complex array of policy approaches and regulatory, co-regulatory and self-regulatory practices established to safeguard media freedom and independence.
