´School of Communications and Media, n.o.´ invites you to attend the ‘3. Seminar Expert Roundtables on Media Policy ‘ which take place on 12. december 2012.

The aim of ‘3. Seminar Expert Roundtables on Media Policy ‘ is a professional discussion of the prior focus and content of the main problems of media policy defined in terms of the broader society-wide goal. That is free functioning of the media and journalists in Slovakia. It will also deal with the recommendations and suggestions that may help to upgrade to a higher level and ensuring its continuity.

Part of a seminar will be a presentation of the latest publications on media policy titled ´Understanding Media Policies. A European Perspective.´

The meeting will be organized in the form of six workshops / groups in which their knowledge and opinions will present three to five experts or practitioners in the field. Chairman will offer contribution, in which he critically evaluate the measures proposed media policy, as well as the contributions of the other participants. He suggest alternatives and offer a comparison and solution of the problem in other countries, the possibility off applying in Slovak Republic and the like.

Given the formulated objectives of the seminar, the papers and discussions will be content on the following topics and areas:

• Ensure consistency in the rulings of the Supreme Court
• Guarantee appropriate levels of reimbursement of damages
• Focus on the specialisation of judges/courts
• Enable greater freedom of speech
• Strengthen the role of local media
• Give support to freelance journalism

If you are interested in participating in the seminar, please fill the attached application, the title and paper, and sent them until 30. october 2012. Contribution of up to 3 pages must be submitted electronically by 1. december 2012 to address skambratislava@gmail.com.

The expected structure:
• A critical assessment of the proposal.
• Practical experience on this topic.
• Experience from other countries and the possibility of their application in Slovakia.
• Advice, suggestions.

Entries that meet the technical requirements of the organizer will be financially rewarded and also published online. In addition, the best contributor will get the chance to participate in an international conference on media policy, which will be held in early February 2013 in Brussels. Participation in it is fully paid for ‘School of Communications and Media, no’.

In late October we will confirm your participation at the conference, which will be definite and we will send you other relevant information.
